Landmarks: Lover's Rock

The Lover's Rock (Traditional Chinese: 姻緣石) is a landmark located along Bowan Road, Hong Kong. According to popular myths, if you want love and children, pray to the Stone and your wishes will be answered.

According to the amateur folklorist, Henry Chan 陳雲海, the myth have several origins. The most popular one is also the most beautiful. During the Second World War, Hong Kong was occupied by the Japanese army. Despite the general hostility between the occupiers and the local, a young Japanese soldier and a local girl found love. However, once the soldiers' superiors and the girls' family found out about their relationship, they tried to break them up.  The couple refused to be separated and fled to where the rock was located. There, they holdout and starved themselves to death.

After the war ended, locals have vision of the couple in their dreams. It was said that they instructed them to visit the stone and prayed to them In return, they will blessed any loving couple with good fortunes (something that they could not have during their own lifetime). As a result of this, the Lover's Rock had become a popular dating spot in Hong Kong.
