Landmarks: The Olde Angel Inn

The Olde Angel Inn is a purportedly haunted Inn in Canada. Located on 224 Regent St, Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada, it was established in 1789 and is Ontario's oldest operating Inn.

During the War of 1812 (1812-14 CE), the Inn was badly damaged by the invading Americans. According to popular legend (that shows up in accounts dating to the 1820's), an unfortunate young Canadian officer was killed in the process.

Captain Colin Swayze had delayed joining the British retreat to rendezvous with a young woman. Surprised by American soldiers to search the Inn, he hid in an empty barrel in the basement. Unfortunate for him, the invaders prod the barrel with bayonets and Captain Swayze received a fatal wound.

Captain Swayze was said to haunt the Inn ever since. According to staff, there have been reports of noises coming from the dining, rearranged place setting, and other unexplained occurrences.

It is also said the ghost will remain harmless as long as the British flag flies over the inn. Consequently, the British Union Jack flew over the inn to the very present.
