Comics Showcase: High-rise Invasion

High-rise Invasion (天空侵犯), also known as Tenkuu Shinpan is a survival horror manga with a unique setting. It is not about zombie apocalypse, a giant bug invasion or even a nuclear invasion. This is about a story about what you will do if you suddenly waked up in a bizarre world surrounded by skyscrapers and masked people chasing after your lives, in a manner much like Freddy from Friday 13th.

The protagonist of the story is Yuri Hojo, an attractive, keen and good nature Japanese high school girl who suddenly find herself on the rooftop of  a high-rise building. Before she have time to figure what is going on, she met a masked man killing someone else right in front of her and chasing for her life.
The story follows Yuri as he wanders around the bizarre landscape, not just to flee from the masked man but also uncover the mysteries of this strange place and find a way home. During the process, she will meet other humans, some who she befriends, while others, she antagonized. Just like a zombie apocalypse genre survival horror, each character have their own motivations, some noble and not so much, which drove the story. Moreover, in a Japanese manga fashion, as Yuri understands more around the world, she awaken latent powers, which ensured that the story will be action packed.

The manga is written by Miura Tsuina and drawn by Oba Takahiro. In my opinion, the characters are very well drawn. This along with good character development by Miura make them extremely like-able. On top of that, Oba also draw some great fight scenes.

Overall, I highly recommended the manga and will give the manga a score of 8/10. It first debuted in 2013 for free on mangabox and is still running. You can start reading them here!
